i just had a fucked up thought! what if xie’er had just a little more time to escape from the avalanche and maybe du pusa was actually right behind with the other guards the whole time and she’s like come on we gotta run and he looks at her and then looks at zhao jing and makes his decision. he opens the carriage door and kneels in front of zhao jing then proceeds to gently cradle his face as they look into each others eyes. there’s a hint of a smile on both of their lips, tears are being shed, xie'er gets to whisper one last fateful “yifu” AND THEN the snow buries them. and that’s it, they die together like that.
