i think it's so interesting that the show and the meta content around it (daniel's website and linkedin showing the books he's written and the newspapers he's worked for) make it clear that his politics have remained throughout his career overwhelmingly leftist, and even relatively """radical""" for an usamerican working in mainstream journalism; because with daniel as our audience proxy, this all suggests that we are meant to see louis and armand's modern lifestyle as inherently evil, and yet i get the impression that most of the viewers outside of the circle of communists i talk to have really bought in on louis' "ethical vampire" bullshit. sure, vampires kill people, but that's genre evil. being a billionaire in a luxury tower in dubai is real world evil. private jets, artificial islands built on slave labor and destroying the local ecosystem, picking up poor refugees and addicts and offering money for their bodily fluids the way rich women buy off poor women's wombs so they won't have to carry their own children. like, obviously i love these characters, but they are the (un)living representation of the exploitative ruling class that's destroying our world, and i feel like that's an aspect of the show that's going completely ignored.
