I say this in the gentlest way possible, but I feel like some people are missing the point that Daniel and Louis are intentionally fucking with each other. They each have a fascination with each other (Louis makes contact with Daniel after decades and an interview that ended badly, and Daniel immediately flies out to see Louis despite earlier having concerns about a local doctor's appointment due to having an autoimmune disease in a pandemic), but there's a bitterness too.

They are kind of paralleling Louis and Lestat, tbh, just in modern times and different conditions. But there is some kind of courtship going on - to what end, we don't know yet. Is it meant to be romantic? Is it meant to be vampiric? Louis says, 'Let the tale seduce you, just as I was seduced.' And that's what he's doing to Daniel too. Daniel is sleeping in Louis' coffin with him now as well. Louis is feeding him. And Daniel is acting how Louis acted at first with Lestat as well, stand off-ish, protected, brash when he needs to be. Even the way Daniel says, 'I'm not your boy!' alongside how Louis tells Lestat to stop calling him 'fledgling' bc it's 'soundin' a little like 'slave.''

I didn't actually mean to write this much about them, but more and more kept coming to me as I went. It's just neat to compare the two relationships we're seeing and idk what the hell it's going to mean yet, but I think they definitely are meant to be looked at together.

And, from my white perspective, anyway, I feel like the difference in how much power Louis has in the two relationships is meant to be significant too. He's already a vampire with Lestat before, but socially still barely had any rights as a Black man who needed to keep his business going well to support his family. Now, in 2022, he's a solo Black vampire, presumably without family ties, who is so wealthy, he doesn't have to answer to anyone or even be seen by anyone, and now he's dealing with this white man who pissed him off before and pretty much has zero leverage in the situation, especially being old and sick.

There's just. A LOT. Going on here.
