Hello, there. I apologise in advance if this was answered already. I've been wondering, do you have a headcanon about the Minor Family's relationship with language? It can even be in the universe of your written series. Why does Vegas use English so much versus Thai? Is it that Gun prioritised him learning English? If so, why? I know the actor Ta speaks English well, so I'm just assuming Macau also speaks English. In that case, do you have a headcanon about Pete's feelings about the language?
oh anon. anon! anon. you have no way of knowing this, but you have inadvertently stumbled upon a question that requires me to air one of my most treasured Unpopular Kinnporsche Fandom Opinions. don’t worry. it’s not a bad thing. but it is relevant to my answer to this question.
so, first of all, i know and acknowledge that the Doylist reason for the English is because it was often more comfortable for Bible, and nobody would dare say no to a man with sad eyes and razor-sharp cheekbones like that. but that’s no fun, story-wise, so let’s just set that aside and dig into Watsonian reasons.
i don’t think Vegas and Macau speaking English comes from Gun. i think it comes from Vegas. it’s something he learned deliberately, and worked very hard at, and all the while he was telling himself and his father it was to have an advantage over Kinn. to give the minor family an edge. to provide a benefit to his father. and Macau worked at it because Vegas worked at it, and told himself those same reasons.
but. those reasons, while true, are also not the whole story. which brings me to my most treasured Unpopular Kinnporsche Fandom Opinion, which is this:
