We’ve had Armand politely turning down a night with Louis and Daniel… but somehow still being near enough to immediately rush in and save Daniel in the nick of time. A sign he had actually changed his mind and was on his way to join them anyway?
We’ve had Louis refusing to give Daniel the gift but then offering it to Daniel 50 years later of his own accord…. A callback to “the passage of time and the frailties that accompany it have provided me perspective”? A sign that it’s Louis who is realising that Daniel who has achieved so much and turned his entire life around - which Louis was so ecstatic to see and so proud of Daniel for doing so - that Daniel who refused to let anything or anyone stop him pursuing what he wanted is still getting closer to death and Louis would be distraught to lose him.
We’ve had Daniel turning down Louis’s offer to bite him now because he’d watch his daughters die but then revealing he’s estranged from them anyway. His career is over, his marriages have broken, his children aren’t talking to him. That whatever is between him, Armand and Louis is literally the only thing he has left.
Like these three are connected in the most baffling, unusual, strangest way. That Louis felt a spark of interest in a brash young reporter and he couldn’t forget him even though it’s been 50 years. That Armand saved the life of this brash young reporter and then did something he never does around mortals and let Daniel see him, see the full extent of what he’s capable of and what he can do. That Daniel is faced with both his saviour saying he’d not save him this time and his attacker going “I was wrong, I would now give you the gift I attacked you for asking for back then.”
That years has passed, they’re all on a totally different continent in totally different surroundings but they’re once again standing in a room together all going “if something happens it’s cool but we’ll take it as it comes.”
