The thing is Lestat is no more suited to vampirism than Louis, he’s just committed to the bit. Lestat loved being alive, he rejected the chance to be a vampire when it was offered. He’s throws himself so fully into his new existence, his role as “Gentleman Death” because that’s simply who he is. He doesn’t know how to live if it isn’t to the fullest. That is why he was so incredibly frustrated living in his provincial town with his father and brothers, who ripped every opportunity for fulfillment away from him.
He has an infinite lust for life even after he’s undead. And the very thing that makes life meaningful, that it’s finite, is taken away from him. And nothing scares Lestat more than meaninglessness.
He really does believe he is fulfilling some beautiful function in killing people. He believes he is giving their life meaning by ending it. And he’s basically microdosing death for himself, using it to distract from the horror of his own meaningless immortality.
