It doesn't show as much, because Yan Wei murders more people and Xu Youyi is very good at showing exactly as much of her thoughts and emotions as she wants to show, but I feel like Xu Youyi is considerably more unhinged, especially about Yan Wei.

Yan Wei falls for Xu Youyi because she's one of the first people who's shown her genuine and unconditional kindness and made an effort to get to know her. Yan Wei is highly protective of and loyal to a fault to people who are like that (see: her whole revenge murder spree for Hongmei), but like, the murdery shape her loyalty takes makes sense for someone with her backstory, and her feelings for Xu Youyi are stunningly... normal. Which is of course the point. Xu Youyi shows her how to live a bit of that normal happy life that's been so unattainable for Yan Wei! She's kind and gentle! She doesn't assume the worst of Yan Wei and shows her affection openly! She's funny and relaxed around Yan Wei in a way probably no one else was before! It's a classic kind of story - traumatised person who's completely desensitised to violence meets a sweet, less traumatised person who shows her the ropes of affection and a normal life.

Meanwhile, Xu Youyi?? It's not that it doesn't make sense that she falls for Yan Wei - that loyalty is something she needs so badly after finding out that what she had with Zhang Wan and Zhou Heng was fake - but she does very much find out that Yan Wei is a murderer who killed her ex-best friend and immediately goes, "Okay :) I'll get you out of prison although I know you did it and I'll hide the murder weapon for you :)" Just. No scruples at all about living with and dating a serial killer. Her trust isn't misplaced, but this is a completely fucking unhinged thing to do and I love her so much
