blaithnaid blooms

Blaithnaid (blaw-nid) is an Irish Gaelic name meaning "flower", "little flower", "blossom".

this is a painting of an original character i did for art fight this year, inspired by the theme "bloom". i wanted to create something reminiscent of paintings of ophelia, but still conveys the power of blaithnaid's character as a witch, a survivor, a future pirate. the flowers which grow from her noose wounds are bog rosemary. you can read a brief bio on her here. she will rise again!
