so, what's the story once we weigh in the implications that we are left with after this final scene?
louis, drowning in grief, gets sucked into a relationship with lestat that turns abusive, apparently conspires with his fellow victim to kill their abuser and frees himself, presents himself as self-sufficient, empowered and healed. however, we have had a sense of wrongness through the whole season, and now we learn that louis’ new lover has been secretly (kept secret from daniel, not from louis) monitoring every session. we learn of this as louis struggles to process his grief over lestat, when louis’ new lover —who incidentally appears to have a disturbing amount of control over the environment— reveals his insane powers and declares that he protects louis from himself. and we close the season with armand literally standing one step above louis, with louis’ unsettling smile, evidently telling us that something is very, very, very wrong. like others have said, this is the monster stepping into frame in the last shot of the movie, and the monster is abuse.
now, let me clarify how i interpret this, or how i want to interpret it.

#right the show always reminds us not to underestimate Louis' agency #the very last conversation Louis and Daniel have this season tells us that Louis is lying #that he couldn't let Lestat go any more than Lestat could let him go #that he yanks the rug out from under Claudia's feet to do it #this entire season has told us again and again that Louis makes bad choices and then pretends that he didn't have a choice #don't underestimate that! #there is a reason he won't call himself a victim — @adreadfulidea!
