Much has been said about how they changed the family dynamics so that Lestat and Claudia's relationship is much more distant and negative and Lestat isn't really her father just 'uncle' and he doesn't really care about her or at least acts like he doesn't. The absence of love in their relationship is felt but that feels like a deliberate tragedy to me. The part in 1.06 that sticks in my mind is when they're on the train and Claudia cries absolute dejected "but you didn't want me". She sounds like a child she some ways still is and always will be. It's heartbreaking. Because nobody ever wanted her. Her mother died before she even knew her, her biological father didn't want her, her aunt didn't want her, and no one will ever romantically want her. Louis loved Claudia and wanted her to be his child and that's why she loves him so deeply and is so protective of him. But i do think she genuinely wanted Lestat to be her father as well. Their relationship wasn't always all bad, in the first years there was mutual love there and she talked about both Louis and Lestat as her parents. When Claudia breaks down on the train in that scene i can almost feel her asking Lestat 'why didn't you want me, why didn't you love me?' I truly believe their relationship could've been so good and loving if they had found common ground instead of resenting each other for their shared qualities and fighting over Louis. I think this is maybe the most tragic part of the whole story
