so I know I already talked about the second screenshot and that moment and how interesting I find it (in terms of Xue Yang sometimes finding the adrenaline rush/curiosity involved in taking a risk with his life worth…taking that risk), but this time around I noticed it a second time in this episode as well - when Song Lan is making his last ditch attempt to kill Xue Yang before Xiao Xingchen stabs him, and Song Lan gets very, very close.
obviously Xue Yang was counting on Xiao Xingchen showing up. and probably he would. but there is a very big open question of timing - will he get there to kill Song Lan before Song Lan kills me? - and despite the danger there Xue Yang isn’t moving to defend himself at all.
as in the second screencap, where Xiao Xingchen is so close to touching Fuxue and thereby realizing who he just stabbed, which would very quickly unravel Xue Yang’s entire life and almost certainly end badly for him - again he’s not moving to do anything, just standing there and watching it happen.
I just find it very interesting, in someone who is such a survivor and does value his life so highly, that he has these moments where he seems to just decide that the “find out” of the “fuck around” is more important than like. self preservation.
